MEETING TO DISCUSS PROPOSED CHANGES IN WYOMING BLACK BEAR HUNTING REGULATIONS

11-26-2013
Wyoming Game & Fish

GREEN RIVER-- The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is holding public meetings to discuss Chapter 3 - Black Bear Hunting Seasons, Chapter 10 - Regulation for Importation, Possession, Confinement, Transportation, Sale and Disposition of Live Wildlife, Chapter 25 - Falconry Regulation, Chapter 33 - Regulation Governing Issuance of Scientific Research, Educational or Special Purpose Permits, Chapter 37 - Raptor Propagation Regulation, and Chapter 45 - Wildlife Rehabilitation. The comment period is now open on proposed changes to the above regulations.

Green River Wildlife Supervisor Steve DeCecco said, while there are many chapters being discussed at these meetings around the state, the most significant proposed changes affect black bear hunters.

"Game and Fish is proposing that black bear bait sites being registered for the first time can be done in person at any Game and Fish Regional Office and eliminating the special archery season in Hunt Area 8, Snowy Range black bear hunt area," DeCecco said. "One of the more significant proposed changes would establish a new hunt area south of Rock Springs, with an area limit of one bear in both spring and fall. If you are a black bear hunter, we encourage you to attend this meeting and provide us some much-desired feedback."

The public information gathering meeting in Green River is being held at 7 p.m., December 10, at the Game and Fish Office, located at 351 Astle Avenue.

The department is proposing that anyone denied a Chapter 10, 33 or 45 permit can appeal that denial to the Department Permit Review Board. The appeal must be made in writing within 30 days of the denial notification.

The Department is proposing to combine Chapters 25 (Falconry) and 37 (Raptor Propagation) into one regulation. This combined regulation would also adopt corresponding U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service regulations pertaining to raptor propagation.

All interested parties are encouraged to attend one of the public meetings discussing the proposed regulations:
