Wohlford Lake Staff
Park Hours: 6:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. (closed weekdays, open weekends only)
Dock Closes: 4:30 P.M.
Last Plant: 1,000 lbs. of Channel Catfish Wednesday, July 31st.
Next Plant: 4,500 lbs. of Rainbow Trout Saturday December 14th.
Water Temperature: At surface 67.10 f., 5.92 D.O. @ 15' 67.46 f., 6.41 D.O.
Water Level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned.
In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
The lake will remain closed during the weekdays, and open weekends only, until the first trout plant on Dec.14th. Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
The season opener for trout is just three weeks away. The early stocking schedule is a robust one with 7,500 pounds of Nebraska Tail Walkers scheduled for release in just the first couple of weeks. Look for Lake Wohlford to be one of the prime locations for trout fishing this holiday season and throughout the winter months.
The fishing for catfish, particularly the larger cats, has been excellent this fall. Lake Wohlford cats prefer cut mackerel or chicken liver. Drop by the ranger station for an excellent dough-bait recipe that works well for either catfish or carp.
Bass are biting in the early mornings and late afternoons. The bass are most often caught near rocky outcroppings and are hitting shad raps, crawdads, and dark colored plastics.
