Julio Ochoa skippered the Red Rooster III on the annual Glenn's Alignment & Brake Service charter with 30 fishermen aboard.
"We started down below on paddies," said Ochoa, "and we had good fishing with about 100 mixed species per day. On the last day we got on albacore in a new area, with good sign of fish that weren't biting real well in 72-degree water."
A 20-minute fight with a 38-pound albacore won the jackpot for J. P. Nisley of Rio Rancho, NM.
"He pulled hard for such a small fish," said Nisley. He bagged his prize with a sardine on a 5/0 chrome Mustad hook, 40-pound Ande line and 65-pound Spectra backing on an Avet reel and a Seeker 800 L Black Steel rod.
Jim Odlum of Mission Viejo was second for a 37.6-pound longfin, and Dave Rexrode won third place for a 28.7-pound albacore. Rexrode wasn't available for a photo, so the first and second place winners posed with their fish.
