Guide Report for New Melones from Guide Gary Burns

Pictured Above: Marshall and Jeff took it to the limit on Saturday.
The trout bite is on at New Melones Lake this week. We have put several bows in the boat up to 20" and every one has taken it hard off the downrigger and then the fight begins. We have been working in the dam area, the main lake in front of the dam, over to rose, and then over to the spillway. Earlier in the week we caught fish from 50 to 65'. Later in the week we went above the 49 bridge and we were putting bows in the boat down 65 to 80' and that's where the shad balls were. The back of the coves worked good but watch out for the trees and the humps with the water getting lower. ExCel spoons in blue glitter or in blue and chrome with bloody tuna was the combo of the week.
