Qualifier 105 arrived at Pt. Loma Sportfishing August 14 with skipper Brian Sims and 32 anglers who fished on a five-day trip some 200 miles south of San Diego. They had some good yellowfin tuna and a few exotics.
Matt Morrison of Westlake won first place for a 60.2-pound yellowfin. He said he bagged it with a sardine on a 4/0 Eagle Claw hook and 40-pound Big Game line. He fished with a Penn 30 reel, he said, and a Seeker 660 rod.
Robert Pletka of Murietta was second, for a 60-pounder, and Dan Morrison of Ft. Lauderdale, FL was third, for a 59-pound yellowfin tuna.
Brett Goldberg of Westlake Village got a 32.6-pound wahoo on a purple and black Marauder jig, and Ace Neely of Lancaster caught a 27-pound dorado. The pair brought their exotics into the lineup shot.
