The planned water releases for the Trinity River have been put on hold

Current River Conditions: It's complicated, but it all has to do with water availability and there's simply not enough to go around. So, releases remain at 446 CFS. Good fishing for Salmon is happening in Lewiston where cold water is found. Lonnie Boles has been pretty happy with the results. The lower you go, the warmer the water and that means the bite isn't all that great once you close in on the waters arounf Junction City.

Until then, Look for the best fishing up in Lewiston where the water is cooler. Some reports of warm 70?? water below Junction City mean the fishing down there won't be all that great. All in all, fishing has been pretty good according to TFS pro guide Lonnie Boles! Lonnie has been into the big King Salmon that show up in the upper Trinity at this time of year. River flows are down to a manageable 446 CFS. Expect to find some solitude and enjoy a few tugs in those runs you found big steelhead in last winter.

So, if you want to find great fishing near Lewiston, Ca. we recommend Lewiston Lake!

The Fly Shop's?? Tips: A variety of techniques, using your 8-9wt rod for Salmon (in July-August), or a more adaptable 5-6 wt fly rod for small steelhead and aggressive browns will tie you into fish. Suspending nymphs under an indicator, stripping buggers and leeches, swinging muddlers or PT nymphs will produce hook-ups! Even dry flies should be in the plan. Bring a parachute Adams! Hey! In July-August, the King Salmon will eat nymphs suspended under indicators. What a blast!

Road Conditions:
Road conditions are great! It's summer! Expect delays west of Redding as you approach the twisty turney road leading up to Buckhorn Summit. Serious road work going on! Sometimes the delays can be 30 minutes long. Call 1-800.427.7623 for up to date Northern California Road Conditions.
