"It's tough fishing out there right now," said Mike Keating after docking his Spirit of Adventure at H&M Landing July 8. He had just finished a seven-day annual Tim Green charter trip with 22 anglers, who did manage to score on nicer bluefin tuna and some good yellowfin. The chartermaster, long a skipper and owner at H&M, won first place in the jackpot.
"He destroyed me. He kicked my butt around the boat," said Green about his 76.7-pound bluefin. He hooked the beast on a sardine and a 4/0 Gamakatsu hook, and fished with 50-pound Ande line on a Trinidad 40 reel and a 765 H Calstar rod.
Ed Corbin of San Diego was second, for a 72-pounder, and Guy Dahl of Kalispell, MT won third place, for a 71-pound bluefin tuna.
