Stripers are still boiling in the Narrows & the Catfish bite is good at Del Valle
8-7-2013
Del Valle Marina
Marina Hours: 6:00 am to 8:00 pm
Park Hours: 6:00 am to 9:00 pm.
Water Temperature: 79 Degrees, at the dock.
Water Level: There was no report of the water level for Del Valle Lake this week.
Water Clarity: The water clarity is pretty good right now.
Fish Plants: On 7/30/2013 Mt. Lassen planted 500 Trout by the dam.
Fish Report:
The Bass bite has slowed this week, except for the early morning Striper boils. The hard core anglers have had some success when they find the boils. But it goes as quick as it comes. The Stripers are hittin mackerel and top water lures in the Narrows. Other than that the Catfish are hitting anchovies by the dam.
Pictured Above: Joe Burke caught a nice 19.2 lb. Striped Bass in the Narrows using anchovies (7/29/2013).
Photo #1: Josalin Coulter of Tracy brought in a stringer of 2 Catfish weighing 12.7 lbs. from the Narrows using anchovies (7/30/2013).
Doc Al's Report:
The Smallmouth bite is definitely on at Del Valle Lake. Drs. Lew Haut and Al Hurwitz of San Jose and Saratoga landed 15 fish on 7/25/2013. Two of the fish were Rainbow Trout the rest were Smallmouth. All fish were released. See Photo #2 for a picture of the 1.5 and 2.5 lb. Smallmouth.
The fish were caught 20' below the surface. We were trolling Panther Martin spinners in a 30 to 35' water column. The vast majority of the fish were caught across from Swallow Rock. The afternoon bite from 2:30 to 4;30 was very exciting. The Del Valle Staff was enthusiastic about the Largemouth, Smallmouth and Striped Bass bite. It is a great time for trolling and casting for Bass!
