HUGE stringers being taken at Santa Ana River Lakes
7-26-2013
Jim Matthews
The catfish bite at Santa Ana River Lakes is hot, especially on the weekend overnight fishing sessions. Two stockings of fish every week is the contributing factor in this catfish slay fest. Heaviest stringer of the week was caught by a 3 man team fishing on the overnight session. Rick Evans, Dennis Brannam & Dave McDonald of La Puente and Montclair landed 26 catfish totaling 49 pounds 10 ounces using shrimp at Levitz corner. Art & Shiela Harvey, pictured of Orange are back again with 15 cats weighing in at 35 pounds. The couple was using shrimp soaked in a garlic scent fishing by the "Big Shady Tree" in the Big Lake. Roland & Ryan Hoshizaki of West Covina caught 10 catfish totaling 23 pounds 10 ounces using a mealworm/marshmallow combination in Chris' Pond. Paul Fredricks and his son Asher of Yorba Linda landed 3 catfish totaling 14 pounds with their largest cat at 5 pounds 8 ounces using shrimp at the Pump House. Santa Ana River Lakes is open seven-days-a-week and has 24 hour overnight fishing/camping sessions every weekend during the summer.
