Big 17 pound catfish caught at Corona Lake

7-20-2013
Jim Matthews

Corona Lake is providing some of the best summer fishing around, this is due to the heavy weekly stockings of both catfish and Tilapia. The catfish bite seems to be at its best around midnight, so anglers deciding to fish and camp overnight are having the most success.

Sydney Adkins, pictured of Northridge caught a 17 pound catfish using mackerel from Pontoon Boat. Steve Chiasson of Corona caught 8 catfish totaling 40 pounds using mackerel from a boat. Jason Nelson of Lake Elsinore caught 8 catfish totaling 24 pounds using shrimp from J.D's point. Galvan Gerardo of Pomona caught 7 tilapia totaling 7 1/2 pounds using night-crawlers at J.D.'s point. Corona Lake is open seven-days-a-week and has 24 hour overnight fishing/camping sessions every weekend during the summer.
