Some great fishing is predicted for the San Diego fleet over the 4th of July

Prospects for the long holiday weekend soared yesterday for San Diego's landings:

Fisherman's Landing posted an excellent catch of 120 sand bass for 27 fishermen on two half-day trips July 2. Three Pt. Loma boats had 6 yellowtail, 305 sand bass, 44 bluefin and a dorado the same day.

H&M's ?? day Malihini posted 170 sand bass, 19 barracuda and four calico bass; two half-day trips got 339 sand bass; and a day and a half boat had 85 yellowtail and 16 bluefin tuna.

Seven local boats with 210 anglers from Seaforth brought home 182 yellowtail, 59 bluefin, 227 sand bass, 138 calico bass and 79 barracuda. That catch included 134 yellowtail and 47 bluefin for a three-day boat, the Voyager.

At Helgren's Sportfishing in Oceanside, the trend was improved catches of sand bass and calico bass, along with good numbers of short barracuda, released.
