The opportunities for billfish remained very good for Mazatlan through the past week as the average held at a one billfish per boat; albeit, some of the boats did have more than one billfish. While we are still seeing some dorado in the fish counts, the huge schools of dorado have yet to show up for their annual gathering at the buoys and everyone is anxiously awaiting their arrival. The overall fish counts for the offshore water for 11 days fished reflected 11 sailfish (3 released) and 1 striper released, along with 2 dorado. The inshore super pangas, reporting in for 5 days fished have reported 7 dorado, 4 barracuda and 10 rock perch.

Mazatlan Climate: Mostly cloudy days with thunder showers and some heavy rain on Wednesday and a slight chance for more rain with the passing of the residual effects of Hurricane Cosme. Surface winds have been about 5-15 mph this past week and some swell conditions are being noticed from the passing hurricane. Temps have been holding stable at 74 nights to 90 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: 85 degrees inshore and a little cooler offshore at 83-84 degrees, but good clarity at about 14-15 miles or so. Changing wind directions and varied speeds from 5-15 mph and the residual swell from Hurricane Cosme, but still fishable.

Best Fishing Area: The fish were scattered over a pretty wide area from about 15 miles out to the south of the Marina El Cid and beyond.

Best Bait/Lure: The rigged trolling baits are working best for the billfish and the few dorado in the offshore waters.

Bait Supply: Remained very good for both, fresh rigging baits and live bait, even through the full moon phase.
