There were a few days of really good fishing for the stripers out to the south of Cabo San Lucas but the fish have continued to move farther off shore everyday and in some cases, just relocate to a different area. The last report we had was at 35 miles and moving outward from there. According to Captain Roberto Marquez, owner of the Fish Cabo boats, the bite was mostly on artificials and the fish were aggressively moving in on the lures, often with several fish in the wake of the boat. The Fish Cabo was high boat for the week with a total of 7 stripers released for 2 days fished offshore and with 6 of the fish landed on just 1 day. The Gaviota IX fished 3 days offshore for 4 stripers released and a couple of dorado in the mix. The overall fish counts for a total of 21 days fished reflected 20 stripers, (19 released) 14 dorado, 2 wahoo, 3 yellowfin tuna, 82 skipjack, 13 Sierra, 1 roosterfish and 12 yellowtail.

Cabo Climate: Warm days and pleasant evenings with temps that ranged from 61nights to 88 daytime highs and partly cloudy days.

Sea Conditions: The Pacific side came up a a couple of degrees this past week to 71 and ranged from the Finger Bank to Cabo. South of Cabo some 20 miles, the temps rise to 75 degrees. On the Sea of Cortez side of the peninsula, from Chileno to Destiladeras, the temps are holding at 73-74 degrees and from Las Frailes and northerly temps jump to 76-79 degrees. Surface wind blowing in from changing directions and ranging from 5-20 mph, depending on the day or the time of day with afternoon wind chop that keeps the fish active.

Best Fishing Area: Out to the south of Cabo San Lucas in the 30-35 mile ranges and where water temps were warmest throughout the southern area. The warm water movement was pushing out to the south and getting farther by the day.

Best Bait/Lure: The marlin lures were working best in the offshore waters and for a few days, there were billfish coming in on everything that was being trolled.

Bait Supply: There was no problem with the live bait supply and the caballitos were readily available at the $3.00 per bait rate.

Captain Temo Verboonen, owner/operator of the super panga, "Secuestro de Amor", reported an excellent bite going on right now for the inshore and offshore waters. The offshore waters are producing very good action on sailfish, along with a few striped marlin and blue marlin and the skippers are reporting a lot of action and fun fishing for the anglers. Everyday has been reflecting multiples of billfish strikes that start in the 10-12 mile mark and then, in the 15-30...... Read More
