The Trout & Kokanee bite are both good at Pardee Reservoir
3-23-2013
Fred Dorman
No more rain in the long term forecast. Look for warming temps, clear skies and gentle breezes.
Bank fishing has been better this week once the rain moved through. Saw some activity behind the EBMUD boathouse, Rainbow and Blue Herron Point and the launch ramp. Bait and set ups remain unchanged; anglers are using chartreuse or rainbow Power Bait (eggs or worms) with garlic and glitter. Pistol Pete's and the latest craze, Mouse (mice) Tails, in addition pink Power Worms on a water bobber has been successful lately. Blue/silver Kastmasters are also hot right after the plant.
Trollers continue to concentrate in Columbia Gulch and upriver areas and are pulling out some nice Trout and Kokanee. The fish are still at 10 to 18 feet and most boaters are sticking with night crawlers behind medium flashers and medium size dodgers in red, blue, and chrome. The Kokanee caught recently were caught using night crawlers. Check at the Marina for all your fishing supplies, snacks, updated fishing information and hot spots.
Bass fishermen are reporting good luck along exposed rock edges along the shore, at the south end and around the River mouth. Spinner baits are still the ticket.
Water level is about 15-18 feet below the spillway and rising slowly, water temperatures still in the upper 40's low 50's at the Marina this morning. Water clarity is good to 15 Feet.
Recent success stories: George McGill, pictured above of Stockton got this beautiful 10.68 lb. German Brown near Deer Island using a Rapala gold xrap. John Galletti, Photo #1 of Murphy's got these Trout off Rainbow Point using power bait and eggs-colors classified. Congratulations Gentlemen! ---Well Done!!
Pardee Lake Recreation has planted 11,000 lbs. of Rainbow Trout as of this morning. The California Department of Fish and Game has also planted 1,000 lbs. of Trout to date for a grand total of 12,000 lbs.
