Over this past week Mazatalan continued with the catching that reflected a near 50-50 chance for the billfish. The offshore fishing reflected 7 stripers caught, (3 released) 1 sailfish, 1 mako shark, 1 dorado and 4 jack crevalle for 17 days fished. The inshore fishing from the super pangas, reporting in for 5 days fished, reflected 1 striper released, 7 jack crevalle, 8 red snapper and 59 rock perch for their efforts. According to our Mazatlan reporter, Ms. Kitcia Ceja, the port was closed on Monday due to rough sea conditions but following days have been good with light winds and calm seas.

Mazatlan Climate: Mostly sunny and pleasant days but cool mornings and evenings with temps ranging from 49 nights to 80 daytime highs. Mostly clear days with occasional passing clouds.

Sea Conditions: Rough & windy on Monday, closing the port for the day and then, calmer days and light surface winds for the remainder of the week. Sea temps were stable at 71 inshore and rising to 72.5 for the offshore waters.

Best Fishing Area: The billfish are scattered in the offshore waters ranging from about 15 miles to 25 miles and there is no concentration.

Best Lure/Bait: The rigged trolling baits for the billfish, dorado and mako shark worked very well. Rapala diving lures best for the jack crevalle.

Bait Supply: Excellent bait supply for fresh rigging baits and for live bait. Live bait is sold at $1.00 per bait.
