Mike Lackey docked his Vagabond at Pt. Loma Sportfishing June 18 after an eight-day trip to Alijos Rocks and Cedros Island. His 22 angles managed a nice catch of yellowfin and yellowtail, and on the last day out, found a good bunch of albacore and bluefin tuna.
Mike Schmidt of Lake Elsinore won first place for a 52.8-pound yellowfin. Je said he got it with a sardine on a 3/0 Eagle Claw hook, 30-pound Big Game line, a Penn 3/0 reel and a Sabre rod of unknown model, in 20 minutes.
Paul Rubio of Huntington Beach was second, for a 52-pound yellowtail he took with a blue and white Salas 6X Jr. jig, and Vagabond regular Jan Ishii of Rancho Palos Verde was third, for a 50.8-pound mossback that swallowed a scad.
