Skiffers Find Success

Brian Sims brought Qualifier 105 home from a seven-day trip June 17. There were 18 anglers aboard, some of them highly qualified, like Rich Holland of Western Outdoor News and Barry Brightenburg of Fish Trap Lures.
"It was a good as a coastal islands skiff trip can get," said Sims. "We got big bass, lots of bass, yellowtail and some big yellowtail, and finished up with some nice reds (rockfish) for the pan."
There was no jackpot on the trip, but the best yellowtail was a 55.2-pounder taken by Mike Hein of San Diego. He said he got it with a Tady 45 surface jig in mint green and white, on 50-pound Izorline, a Trinidad 40 N reel and a Terramar 86 XH rod.
"I got three yellowtail over 40 pounds," said Mike.
Rich Holland was nearby.
Did you get a big one?" I asked.
"I got a 53 on the plug," replied Holland.
