Searcher owner-skipper Art Taylor docked his rig at Fisherman's Landing June 17 after a seven day trip that toured Alijos Rocks and other spots halfway down the Baja. Some big yellowtail came aboard during the trip, but a yellowfin tuna won first place.

Joe Preciado of Imperial Beach won the jackpot for a 49.4-pound tuna.

"I got him in about 15 minutes, after soaking a bait way downswell for quite a while at Alijos Rocks," he said.

He fished with a sardine on a 5/0 Super Mutu hook, with 40-pound fluorocarbon leader and 40-pound Ande line on a Penn 4/0 reel and a Seeker 655 XG rod.

Bryan Van Gundy of Gardena was second, for a 47.8-pound yellowtail he caught on a mackerel.

Matt Henry of Mission Viejo was third, for a 42.8-pound yellow, and Tom Payne of Templeton posed with the winner and his 41.8-pound halibut, a dandy flattie he bagged with a sardine on a dropper loop.
