Fishing on Baum Lake at this time of year can yield "Hog" sized fish especially if a BWO hatch occur

Current Lake Conditions: Baum Lake offers great water conditions and a body of water filled with rainbows and a peppering of brown trout. Big fish? There are some "hog" sized fish here, but they don't get big by falling for your micro mayfly, no matter how good the presentation. So, how's the fishing? It's good. You will catch rainbows here, possibly brown trout. You might even experience one of the epic BWO hatches that occur on wetish days.

The Fly Shop's?? Tips: Fish midges all day! Look for occasional hatches of BWOs and PMDs that produce surface feeding and dry fly opportunities. Stripping and retrieving Leeches on intermediate sinking lines is a great tactic as is suspending #22 black Zebra Midges or Mercer's Gidget under a small indicator. Try a black A.P. on a slow retrieve. There are a lot of scuds in Baum Lake, making various scud patterns an obvious choice.

Baum Lake is an ideal fishing destination for pontoon boats, float tubes and small prams.

Fishing an Intermediate sinking line with a small PT nymph can produce a bent fly rod. The key is SLOW strips! Nothing in Baum Lake is moving fast. Use lighter, longer leaders. Delicate dry-fly presentations will produce more strikes.

Sacramento River: Water clarity on the Lower Sac is still limited but anglers are catching Rainbows to 20"
Pit River: Fishing Conditions are mixed on the Pit, Pit #3 has some water clarity problems but is fishable
Trinity River: Steelhead action on the Trinity River is very good right now & we expect good fishing in the future
Sacramento River: Fishing on the Upper Sac has been Fair with the best conditions near Dunsmuir
Baum Lake: Fishing is great at Baum Lake & the thing is that fishing is good all day
Iron Canyon Reservoir: Mud and snowbanks make it very difficult to get to Iron Canyon Reservoir
Keswick Reservoir: Fishing on Keswick Reservoir is going to be tough due to the lack of water clarity
Lewiston Lake: The Rainbows being caught at Lewiston Lake are going from 14" to 22" & they are FAT!
