Fish Report for 1-22-2013
Fishing on the Trinity River has been good, & the Steelhead are moving through
1-22-2013
The Fly Shop
Current River Conditions: We have another week of clear water conditions and mostly sunny skies. Fishing has been good! Steelhead are slowly moving through which is great for the coming weeks. Expect slow fishing mid day as the sun pushes the fish down deep. Best action is in the mornings and then again near sunset. Focus on shady buckets, riffles, tail outs.
Anglers have been doing best with the following flies: Solitude Golden Stone in #8, #6 Black Rubber Legs and #14 Poxyback Hares Ear and purple #14-16 Psycho Prince. We will update this list as fly selection changes...and it does almost weekly.
Snowy icy road conditions mean your journey on HWY 299 will be a careful, slow one.
The Fly Shop's?? Tips: A variety of techniques, using your 8-9 wt rod for Salmon, or a more adaptable 5-6 wt fly rod for small steelhead and aggressive browns will tie you into fish. Suspending nymphs under an indicator, stripping buggers and leeches, swinging muddlers or PT nymphs will produce hook-ups! Even dry flies should be in the plan. Bring a parachute Adams! Hey! The King Salmon will eat nymphs suspended under indicators. What a blast!
Road Conditions: Expect icy conditions in the AM and evening hours. Be very careful. Call 1-800.427.7623 for up to date Northern California Road Conditions. Here's a link to Cal-Trans Road Conditions: Click Here.
