Central Sierras/Highway 4 Fishing Report July 11th, 2007

Fishing along the Hwy 4 corridor has been excellent.

The North Fork of the Stanislaus has been planted again this week. Bait casters should try split-shotting crickets, nightcrawlers, the new Gulp Power Bait, Gulp Nightcrawlers, Gulp Eggs, salmon eggs, and floating Power Eggs using a 15" to 20" leader. Lure casters should try Rapalas, Kastmasters, Rooster Tails, and Panther Martin Spinners. Fly casters should try nymphs, woolly buggers, ants, and mayflies.

White Pines Lake located near Arnold has still been excellent. Bait casters should try floating Power Eggs, the new Gulp Power Bait, nightcrawlers, and Gulp Nightcrawlers. Lure casters should use Kastmasters. Fly casters should try nymphs, blue wing olive flies, and woolly buggers.

Lake Alpine will be having their Trout Derby this Saturday July 21st. You can contact Lake Alpine Lodge at (209) 753-6358 for details. Lake Alpine has still been pumping out nice fat rainbows. Trollers should try Apex or Needlefish tipped with a nightcrawler behind a small dodger. Bait casters should try nightcrawlers, the New Gulp Power Bait, floating Power Eggs, and Gulp Nightcrawlers. Lure casters should try Kastmasters, Rapalas, and Panther Martin Spinners. Fly casters should try woolly buggers, nymphs, and mosquitoes.

Spicer continues to produce nice limits of trout with trollers having the most success. Trollers should try Apex, and Needlefish tipped with a nightcrawler behind a small dodger or use a flasher with a nightcrawler. Bait casters should try inflated nightcrawlers, crickets, the New Gulp Power Bait, and floating Power Eggs. Lure casters should try Kastmasters, Rooster Tails, and Panther Martin spinners. Fly casters should try ants, woolly buggers, and nymphs.

Mosquito Lake has been excellent. Bait casters should try nightcrawlers, the New Gulp Power Bait, floating Power Eggs, and crickets. Lure casters should try Kastmasters, Rooster Tails, and Panther Martin spinners. Fly casters should try nymphs, woolly buggers, ants, and mosquitoes.

Lake Alpine has been excellent with a 9lb Rainbow caught over this last weekend. Trollers should try either Apex or Needlefish tipped with a nightcrawler behind a small dodger. Try starting at 15 feet and go down from there. Fly casters should try woolly buggers, and nymphs. This past Memorial weekend kicked off an awesome fishing and camping season along the Hwy 4 corridor. Ebbetts Pass is open and most of the high country lakes are now open for fishing. The high country streams are still running high due to the current snow melt. The No. Fork of the Stanislaus has been producing some beautiful big trout.
