Catfish and Bass are biting at Lake Poway

The past week of fishing has been fairly productive, minus Friday when we had 35 mph winds here at Lake Poway. The catfish and bass have been biting really well and that is due to the falling water temperature and the rising water. If you haven't fished here in a month or two, you won't recognize the Lake. The lake level is at full capacity and the aerators are on. The water temperature is 70 degrees and falling quickly. Jeff Kopischke (pictured) of Chula Vista caught a 13 pound limit of channel catfish on the East end of the Log Boom on Sunday, October 28, using mackerel. Many limits are being caught on the Boom and on the Fishing Float. The bass are deep and shallow and there seems to be no rhyme or rhythm. Swimbaits and large plastic worms are working deep in places like the first two barrels on the Log Boom and the Rock Pile off of Jump-Off Point. Creature baits like plastic crawdads and Ikas are working from shore and from the Fishing Float. I was cleaning debris out of the water yesterday (0ct.31) and noticed some monster 6-9 pounders by the retaining wall, before you get to the beach in Boulder Bay. I have no clue as to why they were so shallow.
