Lake Poway will be stocked with 3,000 pounds of Rainbow Trout on November 20th and opening day is Wednesday, November 21.

From Wednesday through Friday during October fishing permits and boat rentals may be purchased from the Lake Poway office. Concessions will be open on Saturdays and Sundays. Note: there are no boat rentals Wednesday through Friday in October. Lake Poway will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 22 to all activities. We will reopen on Friday, November 23. No trout have been reported recently but we are excited to announce that our stocking schedule is finalized and it promises to be another fun-filled season with monster Tailwalkers! The lake should be filled to full capacity by the first week of November in preparation for the first stock. See stocking schedule and discount days below!

CATFISH REPORT
Lake Records:
Blue Catfish - 34 pounds 8 ounces, Scott Marchese, 2008
Channel Catfish - 28 pounds, Richard Kolas, 1981

There have been some catfish caught in the deeper water on the Log Boom in the afternoon as well as off of the Fishing Float. Roger Damian, pictured above of San Diego caught his limit of catfish on the Fishing Float using a Mackerel and Chicken Liver combo just this morning! Mackerel is still the bait of choice and time of day and patience are the keys to a successful trip.

Look for the catfish to bite in the early morning in deep water and again in late afternoon. The bite will increase once the water temperatures begin to decrease. Shoreline fishing late last September and October was amazing, especially in places like Boulder Bay and Jump Off Point.

Trends: The Lake is now being filled and will be rising six inches per day. This should mean that, along with the cooler weather, catfish should begin to become more active in the daytime.

North Shore: A few catfish caught but not many reports.
Half Moon Bay: . Some bass reported last week.
Fish Float: The hottest shoreline spot to fish over the past couple of weeks. Some catfish have been reported early and late. The bass have been biting really well on creature baits. Jump Off Point: Bass and catfish have been caught here and it's turning into one of the hotspots for the Fall.
Boulder Bay: Some catfish and bass have been reported over the past week.
Hidden Bay: Some bass caught over the past week.
Bucktail Bay: No reports.

Tip: For catfish use frozen mackerel, chicken liver or shrimp on the bottom in deep water. From the shore target places like the end of the Fishing Float, Boulder Bay, the middle of Hidden Bay, Pine Point, Jump-Off Point, and by the concrete pillar on the North Shore. Mackerel, Shrimp, and Chicken Liver are still the baits of choice, but read below for a suprise bait you probably haven't thought of! Suprise Bait You Should Think About Trying: Marshmallows dipped in stinkbait! Make it or buy it, the marshmallow/stinkbait combo is an effective catfishing tool.

SUNFISH & BLUEGILL REPORT

The panfish have really been biting well off of the (now submerged) rockpile on the North end of Log Boom and the East end of the Log Boom next to the spillway.

Tip: Panfish really love meal worms and the best places are by the first barrel on the North end of the Log Boom and the East Shoreline by the spillway.

BASS REPORT
Lake Record:

The bass have been very erratic with their bite pattern over the past week. They are deep off of the center barrel on the Log Boom, around the rock pile on the North end of the Log Boom and deep off of Jump -Off Point. The Fishing Float has been the most productive shoreline spot because of the schools of baitfish and crawdads.

Swimbaits and creature baits seem to be the best bet at this time. Fish the swimbaits deep and the creature baits around structure (rockpiles and Fish Float.)

New Trend: This isn't exactly a new trend, but fishing creature baits off of the Fishing Float has been really, really productive. There are schools of baitfish and active crawdads hanging around the Float and the bass have been gorging themselves.

Tip: Find a rock pile or similar structure from shore or boat in 10-50 feet of water. Work a swimbait or soft plastic (worm, crawdad) slowly and have patience. The big ones are down there and they are hungry! Note: No outside live bait is allowed! If our concessions doesn't have shiners or crawdads in stock you can't bring your own!
