The Catfish bite is best at Lake Cachuma, followed by the bass bite.

Catfish are still the best game in town. The narrows, Little Cachuma and Jack Rabbit flats all produced. Mackerel & nightcrawlers were the bait of choice.

The bass bite is mixed and most of the action is in the evening hours. Crankbait, spinnerbait and bottom bouncing techniques were taking both smallmouth and largemouth bass in about 10' to 20' of the water column.

Crappie fishing has been fair at best. A few anglers in the know were picking up slabs to 3 lbs. trolling in the narrows or Santa Cruz Bay. The best lures were C.D. Rapalas and small spinners such as Panther Martins or roostertails.

Trout fishing has been slow but this Thursday, November 1st will be the 1st plant. They plan on planting 4,000 lbs. of quality Calaveras hatchery rainbows which would set the pace for the rest of the season. Call the Marina for the complete 2012-2013 schedule of upcoming plant dates. Bowfishing has slowed a bit but it is possible to have a good day with a little effort.
