Fish Report for 10-25-2012
Bisbee Tournament begins this week, look for results next week
10-25-2012
Larry Edwards
The "TUNA TIME" was high boat for the week and reflected 6 stripers released and 1 sailfish, along with 14 dorado for a total of 5 days fished. The skipper of Tuna Time, Roberto Padilla, said the better fishing was in the Migrino/Pozo de Cota area on the Pacific side of Cabo. The overall combined fish counts for a total of 53 days fished reflected 19 stripers, (15 released) 5 sailfish released, 14 yellowfin tuna, (all school sized fish in the 15-25 lb. range) and 164 dorado, (to about 45 lbs.). We are now in the midst of Tournament week and the first day of the Bisbee reflected a single fish checked in that was underweight and disqualified, according to Roberto Marquez. Perhaps today will allow for a better big fish report from the event and everyone is anxiously waiting to see what the day brings. Final results will show up in next week's report.
Cabo Climate: Overall, it was a very nice week in Cabo that offered bright and sunny days and temps ranged from 65 nights to 88 daytime highs. The Fall has definitely arrived in this area.
Sea Conditions: Great water temps for both sides of the peninsula and good sea conditions with blue water all over. Sea temps on the Pacific side are slightly cooler at 83-84 from the shoreline and out to 9 miles or so and then slides to 82. Starting at Cristobal on the Pacific side and wrapping around Cabo and into the Sea of Cortez, the temps rise to 84-85 degrees and extend out to the 1000 fathom curve and beyond.
Best Fishing area: Again, the better fishing remains on the Pacific side with Pozo de Cota/Migrino area being the hot spot for the week. However, fish were found in all areas from just outside of Cabo and all up the Pacific side with the better fishing just a couple miles off the beach.
Best Lures/Bait: The sailfish and stripers were best on the live bait as the billfish were finicky biters. Dorado were taken on a variety of artificials and live baits dropped back on the slide.
Live Bait Supply: Good supply this past week for caballitos and even some sardinas were available.
