Fish Report for 10-20-2012
Good bass fishing at Pardee, 5.5 pounder the best this week
10-20-2012
Fred Dorman
Rain forecast for early Sunday evening, look for continued cooling temperatures.
The water level has remained the same as last report and is about three or four feet below spill and stable. Visibility remains good, presently good to 15 feet plus at the Marina. Water temperatures will drop somewhat due to cooler trends. Presently temps are 65 degrees at the 20 foot mark and 67 at surface at the Marina.
Trollers have been doing well in the Sugar Bowl and just inside the Narrows. Top lining and downriggers set to 20-30 feet have been very successful for some nice holdover Trout in this area. Some anglers have been working the South End with mixed results; many are reporting catching catfish while trolling in this area. The hot lures for Trout continue to be Thomas buoyant lures in gold/red, rainbow and fire tiger 18 inches behind flashers sling blades or dodgers tipped with a crawler.
Very few bank anglers last week so not much to share about what's hot and what's not along the shore. Woodpile and Stony Point Landing are worth a try, no worries about them being overcrowded or fished out. Cast out about 30 to 50 feet from the bank at either location and put your bait in the deeper channel that runs in front of both areas. White Power bait continues to be hot ticket for Trout. Some Catfish have been taken from the coves along the eastern shore; chicken livers are working the best.
Bass fishing continues to be good up stream in the River arm and around the coves near the River inlet. The Marina is now stocking Yamamoto slim sinkos and Robo worms in all the popular colors, pair these with a drop shot weight and hold on!
Recent success stories; Hiroshi Nishiyama, pictured from San Francisco got this nice Largemouth bass (5.52 lbs.) using crank bait near the face of the Dam. Congratulations-well done!!!
Pardee Lake Recreation has planted a total of 33,000 lbs. of Rainbow Trout in combination with the Department of Fish and Game plants of 5,000 for a grand total of 38,000 lbs.
