Dixon Lake's trout fishing season is just around the corner...October 31st will be opening day for trout season. Best baits in the past have being night crawlers, power worms, power baits, Kastmaster and Thomas Buoyant lures.

Fishing conditions are changing as the season changes with this being the slower time of year. You still the chance for catching the occasional bass or bluegill. Try the weedy sections off the piers or shoreline for the bluegill. Best baits have been red worms or meal worms.

The last stock for the catfish season was on Aug 10th with 1000 pounds. The last night of night fishing was Friday August 31st. The catfish bite has slowed down quite a bit with the cooler weather and water temps. We will be stocking Nebraska Tail Walkers again this year for our upcoming 2012/13 trout season.

1st plant will happen on Halloween Day October 31st with 1500 pounds of trout pending weather and road conditions from Nebraska.

The 34th Annual Dixon Lake Trout Derby is scheduled for Veteran's Day weekend November 9th-12th 2012. Dixon Lake will be stocking 4500 pounds before the derby of trophy sized fish. Last year's derby winner weighed in 11 lb. 3 oz. trout for the grand prize. Prizes will be awarded for the daily 1st and 2nd largest trout each day. Top prizes will be for the grand prize-largest trout of the derby and largest trout in each age bracket for senior, adults and youth 15 and under. There will be prizes for the first 15 tagged fish turned in during the derby and a prize for the smallest trout. All anglers must have a fishing permit each day of the derby. Derby hours are from 6 AM to 4:45 PM each day. It's never too early for stocking up on trout supplies for another banner year of fishing for rainbow trout.

For further fishing regulations, park rules, trout derby rules and future trout stocking schedules please call the Dixon Lake Ranger Station at 760-839-4680 or visit http://www.dixonlake.com

At the present time, Dixon Lake no longer requires a California fishing license from the Dept. of Fish & Game. Dixon Lake has been granted an Aquaculture Permit. All anglers 8 yrs. and older will still need a daily fishing lake permit. All other park rules, fishing regulations and City of Escondido municipal codes will remain in effect.
