Fish Report for 10-6-2012
The Catfish bite is good and the Bass bite is improving at Wohlford Lake
10-6-2012
Wohlford Lake Staff
Park Hours: 6:00 A.M. - 7:00 P.M. (Open Weekends, Closed Monday-Friday)
Dock Closes: 6:30 P.M.
Next Plant: Trout in December
Water Temperature: At surface 74.66 f., 6.29 D.O. @ 15' 74.84 f., 5.94 D.O.
Water Level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned.
In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
The lake will be closed on weekdays through fall, re-opening for weekday fishing in December with the first Trout plant. The park will remain open on weekends.
Catfish are being caught especially on the east end near the mouth of the canal. The Catfish respond well to chicken liver or cut mackerel. Stop by the ranger station for a dough bait recipe that works great on both Catfish and Carp.
The Largemouth Bass bite is improving as the water temperature cools. The Bass are to be found mostly around structure and bite best in the early mornings and late afternoons. Dark colored plastics are preferred bait.
Each month Whopper Contest winners in 4 categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
