The Catfish bite has been "hot" on Lake Elsinore

8-17-2012
La Laguna Boat Launch

This may sound like a broken record, but Lake Elsinore continues to have one of the best catfish bites in the region. The action is excellent on 3 to 6 lb. fish and many fish are being caught up to 12 lbs. or more. The best bite has been on fresh shad, chunk sardines and nightcrawlers fishing in shallow water in the brush lines early and late in the day and then out in 5 to 10 feet of water through the mornings and afternoon. There have been some cats in the 20 pound class reported this season.

The Bluegill have also been good in 3 to 12 feet of water on the bottom. The usual array of baits is best, mealworms, wax worms, crickets and red worms. The wiper and largemouth bass bites have been slow.
