It was a great week for fishing at Collins Lake, especially for the kids!

Greg Byrkit borrowed a grandson for the week and his name was Dylan!! I don't know if it was Greg's infamous bright green safari hat or Dylan's charm that brought good luck to their boat but Dylan, pictured above landed the biggest fish of his little life, it was a Largemouth Bass and he caught it on a hula popper! When I got Dylan to stop bouncing so I could take a picture he told me the whole story. His excitement subsided briefly when his Dad told him it was tradition that when a boy catches his first big Bass he has to gut it and eat the heart!! Now that's the funniest fish tale I've ever heard and between me and Dylan, I was the only one laughing.

Congrats to Drew Morgan, Photo #1 of Santa Rosa who also caught his 1st fish this week, his trout was close to 2 pounds and he was fishing off the dock when he hooked his Rainbow!

Chloe Kugler, Photo #2 and her Mom showed the guys how to catch fish this week! Her Mom Dawn, Photo #3 caught 3 beautiful Rainbow trout right off the dock and Chloe chimed in and hooked one too! They used the "pretty powerbait" colors-you know the girly colors!

Catfish catches were abundant again this week! The biggest was a 7-3/4lb. caught by Ben Niles of Sac. in the middle of the lake in the middle of the night on Charlie's blood. Sounds a little ominous to me! Anthony Buffum Photo #4 of Roseville hooked a 5 lb. 8 oz. and a 3 lb. 8 oz. Cat using worms. Jeremiah Claar's, Photo #5 Cat weighed 4 lb. 8 oz. and he too used worms but he was fishing at the bridge. Probhat uses live crawdads and he got into the Bass he said, he caught 2 nice Bass and 2 Catfish a total stringer weight of 18 pounds. He was fishing in the cove on the far side of the dam from his boat.

Dean DeSelle used anchovies from shore right off the sandy beach and hooked a 5 pound Cat. Christina Barabino, Photo #6 caught a 4 pound Cat near the marina and Faith of Orangevale hooked a 4 pound Cat in Elmer's Cove on livers. It looks like there is not one particular area to catch Cats, they are catching them at the dam, at the bridge, in the campground and off the docks and the east side. They are on the bite everywhere!!

Doug Clark & Jimmy Trejo were back again this week and limiting out on trout almost everyday. Their standard lure of choice is a Mooselock Wobbler with a Rainbow Trout pattern and they used their downriggers at 25' down. Gavin, Photo #7 caught two trout trolling @ 35' on a spinner.

Gianna Siaca tossed a rubber worm from the dock and landed a Bass. Guillermo and the Gang caught and released a two pound Catfish from shore. Mike & Vincent, Photo #8 brought up a Catfish they caught in Elmer's Cove, not sure what they used.

All in all, it was a great week of fishing. We love to see the looks on the kids' faces when they catch a fish, I don't think that will ever get old!!
