Fish Report for 8-18-2012
Fishing has slowed at Lake Morena due to the high temperatures
8-18-2012
Lake Morena Staff
Lake Conditions: Surface temperature is 74.8 and 73.9 @ 20 ft.
Water Clarity: Water visibility is at about 2' to 4'.
** IMPORTANT NOTE** There are currently no state fishing licenses available in Lake Morena so be sure you acquire one before you arrive.
Overall the fishing has been slowed down. The heat has kept the anglers to a bare minimum and running for the AC.
Trout: The trout, I believe, have finally ended their season. Just a few short months until the stockings begin again.
Bass: The Bass are being caught in the 2 lb range. All caught and released.
Catfish: The catfish have been the most caught fish lately. Benjamin McGhee, pictured above from Spring Valley was using the early morning hours to limit before 10 am. His total stringer was weighed in at 14 lbs 4 ozs. Jim Hill of Campo used the other end of the day to capture a Blue Cat with 65 lb test braid. His best guess was a 6 or 7 inch wide head. His limit included two blues and three channels. The North end of the lake near the mouth of cotton wood creek has been popular this week again.
Blue Gill: The Gills have made a comeback with anglers plucking them out on a regular basis.
Crappie: The crappie bite has slowed to zip.
Carp: These fish are saving themselves for another time.
Water Clarity: Water visibility is at about 2' to 4'.
