Fish Report for 7-9-2012
Excellent trolling action for Kokanee, King Salmon and Rainbow Trout on Lake McClure!
7-9-2012
Bruce Hamby
The 15 to 16 1/2 inch Kokanee gave my clients plenty of drag pulling fun. The red hot Kok are 50 to 60 feet deep holding off rocky points in very small schools. My go-to offering was Uncle Larry's spinners behind Vance's dodgers with Pro Cure corn scent. The east of the lake between Barrett's Cove and Temperance Bay are good areas to try.
The King Salmon bite is also off the chart. A few of my clients wanted to target Kings first thing in the morning. They were pleasantly surprised with numerous Salmon 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 lbs. range. But this weeks big fish tipped the scales at 4 lbs. 11 oz caught by Warren Cooper of Wilton. Rolling shad and anchovies injected with Pro Cure scent provided for great King Salmon fishing. We found the Chinooks feeding on shad in the same area as the Kokanee only deeper 60 to 100 feet.
Although we didn't concentrate on Rainbow trout we did land and release several bows 16 to 20 inches while fishing for Kings and Koks. Lake surface temperatures 79.8 degrees.
