Fish Report for 7-7-2012
Summer has started & the fishermen are celebrating at Silver Lake in the June Lake Loop
7-7-2012
Andrew Jones
Summer has finally arrived at Silver Lake. The people are here and the fishing has finally started to get really good, thanks in part to a load of Alper's trout dumped into the lake on Monday and another load of 900 pounds of DFG fish put in on Tuesday. We have seen a steady stream of 2 to 3 pound rainbows being caught all week. Look for DFG to continue there 900 pound loads for a few weeks and we will be getting more Alper's later in July, in August and again in September, so the fishing should remain good throughout the rest of the summer. The water temperature has started to get warm (62 degrees at the surface last week) and those fish will be starting to go deeper in the water to find some cool spots especially during the middle of the day. Best results seem to be early in the morning and later in the afternoon when the sun isn't beating on the water. Using a Gold/Red Thomas Buoyant, a Tazmanian Devil, or pulling a streamer, like a Olive Matuka or Hornberg, behind the boat should produce some nice results. Sticking with worms or a dry fly should also be good early and late. During the heat of the day, stick with Power Baits to produce nice catchables. Garlic Rainbow, Salmon Peach or Chunky Cheese Garlic have been seeing good results but all Power Baits seem to work just fine.
Rush Creek has been a little slow this week due to the lack of water, but try using some dry flies, like a Sierra Brite Dot, a Mosquito, or a Black Gnat with a red tail and you should be successful.
