Fish Report for 6-25-2012

The Wind definitely made it more difficult to fish at Silver Lake & Rush Creek

If you were able to with stand the winds we have had over the past two weeks and were able to find a nice sheltered spot out of the wind, you probably caught some nice fish. The wind has been blowing off and on, mostly on, for the past two weeks which has made it extremely difficult to get some good quality fishing in on both Silver Lake and Rush Creek. When the wind wasn't blowing you off the lake, we saw some very nice stringers full of stockable trout both from the lake and the creek. Using Powerbait seemed to be the most popular way of fishing the past few weeks, with most anglers catching some trout using Berkley's Chunky Cheese Garlic, Rainbow Garlic, or Salmon Peach. Mosquitos and other insects have begun to hatch as well, so when the wind dies down look to throw out a California or Green Mosquito, a Sierra Brite Dot or some Elk's Hare Caddis both throughout the lake and Rush Creek. If you can get out between wind storms and do some trolling, some anglers were having some luck pulling an Olive Matuka, Green Wooly Bugger near the surface, or some Tazmanian Devils a little deeper below the surface.

The wind is suppose to subside by this Tuesday and we hope it will be nice and calm as we head into the Fourth of July Week.

Speaking of the Fourth of July, don't forget about Silver Lake Resort's annual Horseshoe Tournament and BBQ scheduled for Wednesday July 4th from 11 am to 4 pm with live Music by "Good Livin", raffle prizes, great BBQ and the always exciting Horseshoe Tournament.

I also want to thank the 30 plus volunteers who braved the wind this past Saturday to help with Silver Lake Resort and The Federation of Fly Fishers annual Rush Creek Cleanup. Over 100 bags of trash were collected from the shore of Silver Lake, along Rush Creek and even along some parts of Grant Lake. Thanks to everyone who helped at this very important event to help keep our area clean and beautiful. Special thanks to Joe Lemire and his FFF crew.

Fish Of The Week: Simone Bliss, Sonia Bliss and Natalie Winsor brought in this nice four plus pound stringer froma boat on Silver Lake using good old fashioned Salmon Eggs.

The Ramseyer girls of La Canada, Lauren and Reese, landed this nice 8 pound plus stringer fishing from the shore of Silver Lake using Pink Powerbait.

Jenna Milhon caught a nice 4 plus pound stinger on Silver Lake using Thomas Buoyants.

We also had some great fish come in from Virginia Lakes with a 4 pound 7 ounce Rainbow caught on a Kastmaster by Mo Shamout of Simi Valley, a 2 pound 8 ounce caught on a Rapala by Hani Shamout of Simi Valley and a 2 pound 1 ounce caught on Powerbait by Miriam Shamout of Simi Valley. Great fish from Virginia Lakes.

Happy Fishing and Good Luck!!!
