Very slow fishing for billfish from Cabo San Lucas and the bite hasn't resumed since the end of the IGFA Tournament during mid-May. The Pacific cool water came whipping around the lower end of the peninsula and into the Sea of Cortez and moved all of the fish farther into the Sea of Cortez. Now, we are seeing some reverse to the cool water currents from the Pacific side and the push is coming out of the Sea of Cortez and the water temps are escalating by the day. Given just a few days of stability, the fish will return to the regular areas around Cabo and we may begin to see a few blue marlin in the mix with the high water temps. Charting the sea temps from the Golden Gate on the Pacific side, starting at 71 degrees & moving down toward Cabo to Cristobal, the temp increases to 74 and then, moving to Cabo Falso it jumps to 76 degrees and hits 79-80 by Cabo San lucas. Then, moving into the Sea of Cortez it rises to 82-83 degrees and extends from the shoreline to about 10 miles out. If this push continues, and we think it will, the temps should expand throughout the lower Baja and begin to attract the billfish and dorado back into the area. So, here we are, keeping our fingers crossed and waiting for the influx of big game fish. The current fishing reports for 11 days combined reflected 2 stripers released, 12 roostefish, (smaller fish in the 10-18 lb. ranges) 12 Sierra and 2 yellowtail.

Cabo Climate: Mostly sunny and clear days with temps that ranged from 65 nights to 93 daytime highs and mostly the predominant westerly surface winds in the 5-20 knot ranges.

Sea Conditions: Overall, the Sea of Cortez side continues to produce the better fish catches as the sea conditions continue to be more favorable, offering little swell and light surface winds.

Best Fishing Area: There has been no concentration of fish over the past couple of weeks and the boats have expanded their travels in search of anything that will help their fishing day.

Best Bait/Lure: There is no favorite right now for the offshore fishing as nothing has been working to attract the billfish.

Live Bait Supply: Remains good for caballitos and we still recommend taking 10 baits per day, (more if you intend to fish the inshore areas).
