Ranger 85 3 Day Memorial Day Special, May 25 thru May 28

5-14-2012
Frank Ursitti - Ranger 85

Our Memorial Day 3 day is just around the corner and I for one can't wait. These last couple weeks, water temperatures are starting to rise and there have been teaser signs of both Seabass and Halibut. This past weekend, I know of one Halibut deep in the 30lb class that was landed and 3 Seabass that were caught in one of the stock spots after a little squid was made. It all feels like it's coming together.

With 3 full days to fish the Channel Islands the possibilities are endless. We will have plenty of time to prowl around all the usual haunts looking for Seabass and Halibut as well as satisfy our need to load up on quality rockfish. I have had many calls regarding what to bring, where we will be going, what to expect and what's on the menu. Well, I want to address all those questions and more.

Come diversified as far as tackle is concerned. One should come equipped with a variety of sinkers from small sliders to 16 oz. torpedoes. Hooks should range from #2, #1, 2/0 and 4/0. A variety of artificials from plastics to jigs. Don't forget to bring your squid jigs...we will try to make squid or mackerel at night.

As far as where we may go, well the play book is open. Depending on what is happening, I feel we are going to see some activity here in the Northern Islands any day now. We are likely to fish Santa Rosa, San Miguel and San Nicolas...possibly Santa Barbara Island as well...again just depending upon how the coming week shapes up.

I just got the menu in from Nancy, and here is what's on tap for eats onboard...and you know we like to eat...
Day 1
Breakfast
Jumbo Burritos

Lunch
Hot Pastrami with homemade slaw

Dinner
Panko Encrusted Chicken Breast with Ranch Glaze
Homemade Mac and Cheese with steamed Broccoli
Dessert
Chocolate Cheese Cake

Day 2
Breakfast
French Toast with County Sausage

Lunch
Andouille Sausage Jambalaya

Dinner
Tri Tip Roast

Day 3
Breakfast
Eggs to order with Biscuits and Gravy

Lunch
Fish Tacos and frijoles

As if needed, there is always fresh fruit as well as snacks constantly available between each meal...this has always been my downfall. We have but 14 spots available on this trip, so don't delay if you are on the fence.

We added 2 3 day trips to our Channel Islands schedule this year due to the popularity of our fall 3 day last season. We have lots of fun in a relaxed environment. What better way to spend the holiday weekend then fishing offshore for a few days in some of the most productive waters amid unsurpassed scenery.

I look forward to seeing you all onboard.

Capt. Frank

Hi Everyone, May is upon us and we all can't help but gaze upon the horizon waiting to usher in summer. We have made the decision to keep the Ranger 85 in Channel Islands through most of July. Our first trip in San Diego fishing offshore will be a 2.5 day trip departing July 31st. My reasoning for this is that the water setup continues to be cool and while I feel we will have a good offshore...... Read More
