In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

The Trout fishing has slowed down some, but should improve dramatically with next week's plant. Currently Willow Cove seems to be getting the most action. Rene Dodson, pictured above of Escondido had the largest Trout of the week with a 5.10# fish caught in Oakvale Cove on green powerbait. Zachary Parks of Valley Center recorded an 11.70# limit by mid-day Friday fishing with a combo of powerbait and nightcrawlers in Willow Cove. Powerbaits & powerworms (greens and yellows) along with inflated nightcrawlers have been the preferred baits.

As the water warms Bass are beginning to bite more frequently and are being caught often times by trout anglers. Randy Gabbitas caught and released a 4.25# Bass on Thursday on a nightcrawler along Senior Shoreline. Bass can be found around structure and bite in the early mornings and late afternoons.

Each month Whopper Contest winners in 4 categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For further information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
