The Trout fishing remains good Jesse Tran, in the photo above of San Diego had the largest Trout of the past week at 7.00#s caught on a nightcrawler in Boat Dock Cove. Eric Emanuel of Valley Center was a close second with his 6.60# fish caught at the West Buoys also on a nightcrawler. Sam Morfin of Escondido weighed in a 12.40# stringer of five on Wednesday caught using a combination of powerbait and nightcrawlers. Finally, John O'Day of Mira Mesa weighed in a 4.00# Trout caught on Senior Shoreline. Powerbaits & powerworms (greens and yellows) along with inflated nightcrawlers have been the preferred baits.
As the water warms Bass are beginning to bite more frequently and are being caught often times by trout anglers. Eric Shaw, in photo #1 of San Marcos caught and released a 7.65# Bass on Sunday on an inflated nightcrawler along Senior Shoreline. Bass can be found around structure and bite in the early mornings and late afternoons.
The spring like conditions have ushered in an early emergence for the Crappie, which have been appearing pre-dawn in small numbers. Crappie prefer the cover of rocks or submerged willows in which to hide and are receptive to finger jigs and live golden shiners.
