?Į?ĮLake Elevation: 1740

Surface water temp: 70 - 75 degrees
Fish Plants: Rainbow trout, 2,400 pounds May 17th.

Lake Hours: 5:30 am - 7:00 pm.

Weather:??Temperatures have been in the 90's with strong winds in the afternoon.

Bass: ?? The bass bite at DVL has been hot. Most catches have been between 15 and 40 feet. For those seeking a larger catch, fishing deeper has been effective. The bite has been wide open for those using live shad. DFG?? permits the use of one scoop of live shad from a regulation dip net. The shad have been packed thick in the backs of coves all over the lake. Dipping shad can be difficult, so the use of shad replica lures is highly advised. When fishing in a bait school try your best to match the size and color of the bait. Flukes, Suspending Jerk Baits, Lipless Cranks, and underspins have been great baits for fishing bait schools. The most reported soft baits for bass have been drop shot rigged plastics in dark green or black.

Rawson Cove has been the most reported bass cove this week, with the wave attenuator, the rock quarry, the west dam, and around the saddle dam also producing well. Shoreline anglers have had consistent catches, but with less success than the boat anglers. Steve Froma of Hemet got a 6.2 pound bass fishing the south shore with a worm

The ABA night tournament this week yielded great three fish limits. The winning weight, landed by team Kuno and Kuno, totaled 18.34 pounds. Their biggest fish weighed 7.79. Team Linehan and Linehan got the biggest fish of the night weighing 7.99 pounds.

Trout: There has been an excellent trout bite at DVL. Trout have been spread throughout the water column. Reports have trout being caught from 10 - 50 feet. Boaters have been getting great trout limits, but trout catches from shore are nonexistent. Boaters have been either trolling spoons or cranks, or drifting night crawlers or live shad. Hot lures for trolling are Needlefish, Kastmasters, Team Diawa minnow lures, and shad pattern Rapalas.

Brian Kesser of Chino got a 10 pound limit of trout with the biggest at 3.75 pounds. He was trolling the west dam 50 feet down with Needlefish lures and night crawlers. Mark Franco of Redlands got two trout at 3.2 and 4.2 pounds. He was trolling a Needlefish mid lake at 30 feet. Jim Dixon of Hemet got a 5.85 pound trout drifting night crawlers by restroom 2. 11 year old Dylan James of Wildomar got a 7.83 pound trout trolling a needlefish at 40 feet along the south shore. Jose Tovar of Hemet got a 4.89 pound trout drifting shad on the west dam at 15 feet.

Striper: There have been striper sightings, but no reported catches. Striper fishing seems to be at it's best early in the morning, in the late afternoon, or on overcast days. Fishing near the inlet tower is advised for those seeking striper. Trout swim baits, Plugs or stick baits have been the most reported lures for striper.

Catfish:??Catfish has been an outstanding bite at DVL. Most catches have been between 10 ??? 40 feet. The top spots have been near the wave attenuator, the third cove of shoreline fishing, and near the rock quarry. Damon Hanson of Brea got a 7.18 pound catfish. He was fishing with shrimp at 40 feet along the wave attenuator. D.J. Watts of Riverside got a 17.98 pound catfish in the third cove of shoreline fishing using a night crawler at 15 feet. 14 year old Bryce Enilson of Murrieta got a 5.22 pound catfish in the rock quarry. He was fishing with night crawlers 35 feet down. Dinah Hanson of Brea got two catfish at 7 and 11.83 pounds near the wave attenuator using shrimp at 40 feet. Damon Hanson of Brea got two catfish weighing 9.5 and 7.2 pounds on the wave attenuator also using shrimp at 40 feet. Jesse Dinkins of Hemet got a 5.54 pound catfish fishing 10 feet below the wave attenuator with anchovies.

Panfish: it was a great week for panfish. The bluegill have been bountiful and crappie have been making small appearances. The most reported spots for bluegill have been near the dams. Crappie has been near the wave attenuator or near the eucalyptus trees in the south east corner. Live worms have been the best bet for panfish. 10 year old Johnathan Evans of Rancho Cucamonga got a 1.25 pound bluegill on the west dam with a night crawler. Steve Fromm of Hemet got a 2.18 pound crappie fishing near the rock pile north of Rawson cove. He was using a crappie jig.

Lake Record Striper November 11, 2005: Art Berry of Hemet; 29.77 lb. striper caught at East Dam using swimbait.

Lake Record Largemouth Bass March 16th 2007: DVL would like to congratulate Mike Long of Poway who became the new Largemouth bass record holder this week with a 16.43 pound bass. He was fishing the west dam with a 6" "Real Trout" Rago swimbait.
