Thanks to Basil Pappas for this report:

"Four West Coast long rangers made the trek to Prince Edward Island, Canada the week of September 5th 2011 and had the trip of a lifetime aboard Captain Greg and Spencer Norton's "Tight Lines".

"Fishing standup with live mackerel and herring for bait, just 2 miles from the dock, we were treated to world-class giant bluefin tuna fishing. We released all fish, between 430lb and 880lb on our trip, save this one for which Captain Greg Norton used his final tag of the season. As Ken Cirks remarked, 'It was a dandy!'

"If you have ever wanted to test the limits of your skills at standup tuna fishing, Prince Edward Island has to be on your short list of fishing destinations. Needless to say, we are re-booked for next year!

"Some details on this catch:

"867lb Bluefin Tuna; Prince Edward Island 9/7/11.

200-pound JB hollow spectra, 100-foot 200-pound BHP Momoi topshot, 12-foot 200-pound Seaguar fluoro leader, Calstar 46XH rod, Penn 80ST Cal Sheets blueprint w/ 1:1 low gear, Braid Power Play harness/belt, Mustad 39943BLN 12/0 circle hook. 48-minute fight. Crimping by Spencer Norton -- with Tim Turis, Jim Carlisle, Basil Pappas and Ken Cirks."
