Location: OFFSHORE, SAN BENITOS ISLAND AND GUADALUPE ISLAND.

The Seeker Rod Company and Avet Reel Company sponsored this trip departed Fisherman's Landing on August 9th for a 7-day trip. Our trip was super Ultra Light Load of 17 anglers. Captain/Owner Norm Kagawa was in charge and Bruce A. Smith was second. Todd, Chachi & Andy were the best crew that you could ever have. Our main destination was Guadalupe Island. As you well know, they just opened this island for fishing. We have to stop in Ensenada to get our Guadalupe permit. Captain Norm planned to go to Ensenada first and then hit the offshore next morning for the Bluefin Tuna, next day will be San Benitos Island or Cedros Island, and finally hit Guadalupe Island.

TUESDAY - TRAVEL & PERMIT DAY We stopped at the receiver, had our brief seminar from Captain Norm. We went To Ensenada for our Guadalupe Island permit then travel towards offshore ground. Pat Doyle of Seekers and Bill Cashman started giving away goodies and an Avet reel. I gave away a few Owner Hooks and Seaguar Fluorocarbon Lines to some of the passengers on the boat.
WEDNESDAY - OFFSHORE TUNA DAY We're at about 50 miles west of San Martin Island and fishing was fabulous. We got hit on our first troller right away. It was just non-stop fishing. They were just all over - jumping and boiling everywhere. Just awesome fishing. We ended up with 118 Bluefin Tuna and 31 Yellowfin Tuna ranging from 15 to 50 lbs. We left the ground about 7:30 pm.
THURSDAY - SAN BENITOS ISLAND We arrived in San Benitos Island around 9 am and started fishing for Yellowtail. I got hit right away on my green mamba Salas jig. All the Yellows were super aggressive. They bite everything that you would offer them - surface iron, yo yoing jigs, dropper looped and flylined sardines. The only problem with this area are the nasty sealions. they would not leave us alone. We've lost lots of fish & jigs. The fish tally was 89 Yellowtail. We skipped Cedros Island because of the travel time to Guadalupe Island.
FRIDAY - GUADALUPE ISLAND We arrived here pretty late and fishing was slow. The Mexican Navy boarded us for permit inspection later in the afternoon. We ended up with 3 Yellowfin Tuna to 70 lbs.
SATURDAY - BIG YELLOWS AND BIG TUNA ON THE ISLAND Captain Norm put us on a school of Yellowtail and they were all giant size ranging from 25 to 42 lbs. And the same time the Big Yellowfin were there too up to 70 lbs. This was the best day so far at the island. The fish count was 44 big Yellowtail and 5 big Yellowfin Tuna. Sushi bar was served in the afternoon.
SUNDAY - DAY 3 ON GUADULUPE ISLAND We still managed to find the big school of quality giant Yellows. I couldn't believe I caught my first 41.3 lb. Yellowtail. They were all giants. We caught 18 Yellowtail and 4 Yellowfin Tuna ranging up to 89 lbs. There were more bigger ones that we saw jumping around there. We just couldn't get them to bite. We left Guadalupe Island about noon. We will be heading back to the offshore again for more Bluefin Tuna.
MONDAY - MORE BLUEFIN AT THE TUNA GROUND --- FINAL DAY As soon as the light came out so as the Bluefin started biting. Too bad we couldn't stay long. We headed back towards Ensenada again for our final check up. We took home 18 Bluefin, 5 Yellowfin and 1 Yellowtail. Randy & Pat served Prime Rib for dinner. Wow!!!
TUESDAY - GOING HOME Breakfast was served at 5 am. We arrived back at the docks of Fisherman's Landing at 6:30 am.
