Salmon Enforcement

Local Department of Fish and Game warden Lt. Sam Castillo advised, "There will definitely be an increased enforcement presence over the opening week of salmon season. With the increase in salmon in the Feather River system, we look forward to an increase in the number of anglers using the Oroville Wildlife Area as well. We would like to remind folks that OWA users may only enter the area one hour before sunrise, and must be out of the area one hour after sunset.

"Additionally, with the expected increase in area use, we would appreciate everyone taking their trash home with them. Please help us keep the OWA clean for the fish and wildlife.

"Anglers are reminded that any fish not willingly taking a hook in its mouth must be returned. Retaining an illegally hooked salmon is a costly fine. Wardens appreciate anglers help in returning foul hooked fish to state waters unharmed."

Castillo continued, "One other reminder is that although the Thermalito Afterbay Outlet will remain open to fishing for other species, it will be closed to the take of salmon. This means that if wardens determine anglers are specifically targeting salmon in this area, they will be subject to citation."
