Fish Report for 7-3-2011

Are the fish really jumping in the boat at Silver Lake?

Andrew Jones

If you can't catch a fish on Silver Lake this week, then you must not being getting your line into the water. With a huge load of Alper's Trout and another 900 lbs of DFG fish, there are plenty of fish to be taken. On top of this weeks stocking, we are still getting some great tagged trout from the YUM Troutkrilla fishing tournament going on the entire Summer.

The weather is great and the water temperature is at a prime 54 degrees at the surface. Anglers have been knocking them dead with YUM Dough Baits, Berkley Power Baits and worms for the bait fisherman and Thomas Buoyant and Needle Fish for the Spinner Fisherman.

If your game is trolling, try using a Tazmanian Devil or a Rapala going about 30 to 35 feet below the surface and an Olive Matuka or a Green Wolly Bugger on the surface.

There is also plenty of bugs hatching so the fly fisherman can try a #14 Mosquito, a #14 Red tail Black Knat or a #16 Sierra Bright Dot, as these have been producing some nice trout in the early morning or late evening feeding on the surface.

Fishing on Rush Creek has also been producing plenty of stockers and an occasional 2 plus pound trout. Try fishing below Eire Craig to get some nice trout using Salmon Eggs or a fly. Fishing doesn't get much better than the past couple of weeks.

There were over 35 fish weighing in above 2lbs this week but the top dogs for this week were Kyle Aarup of Yucca Valley, this young man had a stringer of a life time with his five fish weighing in over 13 pounds. Kyle caught all his fish using a Silver/Blue Thomas Buoyant landing a 3 lb 12 oz, 2 lb 12 oz, 2 lb 2 oz, 2 lb 12 oz, and a 2 lb 8 oz; WOW!!!! Ray Chavez of LaQuinta caught a great 4 lb 4 oz from the shore of Silver Lake using a Berkley Power Worm. Joshua Sutton of Wendell, Idaho (age 12) caught a 3 lb 10 oz rainbow from a boat on Silver Lake using Corn Powerbait. On Rush Creek, Wanda Beck landed a 3 lb 6 oz rainbow and a beautiful 2 lb 10 oz Brown using worms.

Some great fish this past week with another load of Alper's Trout coming in on Wednesday July 6th, so look for the fishing to continue to be stellar.
I also want to take a second to thank all the people who attended our annual Chris Jones Memorial Horse shoe Tournament Saturday July 2nd, where we raised over $5,000.! The annual tournament has allowed us to provide a scholarship for a local Mammoth High School student to attend college. Without the help of all our great guests, this scholarship would not be possible. We look forward to our Labor Day Tournament where we can continue to raise some money for a great cause. THANK YOU!!!!!
