The Aquarius is Back on the Malibu Pier

The Aquarius is back and once again running sportfishing trips from the Malibu Pier!!! A State Park and Recreation mandate has allowed for the resumption of sportfishing trips from the newly renovated Malibu pier. The decades long history of sportfishing aboard the Aquarius and from the pier will once again continue to expand. Captain Tim Overstreet will be skippering the 55' Aquarius on daily half day trips fishing all the local Malibu hotspots. These areas have seen very little fishing pressure for many years and should produce some awesome catches this season. I jumped on board the Aquarius with Captain Overstreet, deckhand Jordan, galley man Ken Wilson, and a few eager anglers for a little morning fishing action. Fluctuating cold water temperatures in the bay have put the areas calico and sandbass in lockjaw mode so the Captain decided that fishing some of the deeper reefs for rockfish would be our best bet for putting some quality fish in the sacks. We spent the morning fishing some of the Captains's favorite rocks, boulders and ridges and ended up putting a bunch of nice quality rockfish on board. Word has it that a live bait receiver is ready to go and will be moored just off the pier early this week providing much needed live bait to the Aquarius and local anglers on the pier. An office is up and running and a small tackle shop is in the works so things are really shaping up for a great season. Call the landing at 1-888-310-PIER to make a reservation. The Aquarius runs double half days trips departing at 6am and 12pm daily except for tuesday where there is only a morning 6 am run.
