Pacific Star 2 Day SFR Charter at San Clemente Island
5-25-2007
Homan Khaki
San Clemente Island has been loaded with angry hard charging Yellows and our SFR Charter aboard the beautiful Pacific Star was destined to get into'em! Twenty-five seasoned SFR anglers hopped on board and shoved off from Sportfishing at 22nd St. Marina. Finding bait out of LA Harbor has been a challenge so we knew we had to snag some squid at Catalina Island to be successful. We immediately kicked off the SFR raffle with essentials from Fishworks and Seaguar. We arrived just outside Avalon and had a slow pick at the squid. As soon as we'd get a good float going, several seals would capitalized on the opportunity to steal our candy. We were relentless and so was the Crew! We picked up enough to load one of the bait tanks and off we went. We started off the morning with a nice Calico bite in the kelp beds but the Yellows didn't want to play. We loaded our sacks with a mixed bag of nice grade assorted Rockfish. On the second day we managed to land three Yellows but we really had to work hard for them. With the Memorial Day weekend in full swing, there were many sportboats at SCI eager to pull on some Yellows.
We finished up our second day with sore arms and bags of fish that looked like they were going to bust open. As usual, we had a great group of anglers who were spoiled rotten by the hospitable and professional crew of the Pacific Star. Owner and operator Captain Mike Bullard, Second Captain Joe Greggory, Deckhands Matt Opitz, Mike Messinger, Michael Speedy Britton and Galley Chef Shane Deremer provided an incredible experience! The gorgeous Pacific Star and the Crew's level of service really shows their pride for what they do. I'll let the pictures do the talking! For copies of any pics, drop me a line at Homan@sportfishingreport.com. The Pacific Star will be making their way down to San Diego and will fish out of Seaforth Sportfishing for the rest of the season. Give Seaforth Landing a call at (619) 224-3383 to make reservations or visit ???www.pacificstarsportfishing.com' for charter schedules and information.
