Pacific Dawn SFR Charter

6-1-2007
Don Padick

The recent SFR charter May 28th on the Pacific Dawn with Captain Chaz Govan and the crew was a big success with limits of nice Santa Rosa Island rockfish hitting the sacks. Chartermaster Homan Khaki led myself and 20 eager SFR regulars and newcomers on a quest for some rod bending outer island action. The water temperatures around the Islands are still a little bit chilly, and this is keeping the big boys from coming out to play. We still had plenty of line ripping action as Captain Govan took us to some of his favorite Santa Rosa Island reefs, rocks and ridges. We had to work at it a little bit with nobody working it more successfully than angler Mary Lukas. Mary showed us boys all how its done. She put together the trips fattest sack including the biggest variety of rockfish and of course the jackpot fish. Not only did Mary take the JP with her big sheephead, she had a backup sheepie and a couple of toad whitefish in her sack just in case any of the boys could come up with a contender. She didn't need em !! Awesome Job Mary !!!! We ended the trip with limits of nice rockfish including a ton of nice chuckles, reds and a few lings. Great job as always by Captain Govan and the rest of the Pacific Dawn crew and we all look forward to fishing with you guys again. That's the word on the water.
