Hello Anglers,
Despite waking up to the weather getting snotty, we were able to get on our first school just after breakfast. John Gonzales got things going with a 250 pounder that he hooked on a flylined sardine. We also were able to land several 120 to 150 pound fish. In all we had 8 fish for our morning and drifted for about 3 hours. After working back up to the area where we stopped in the morning we came across a school of breaking fish. After getting a great reaction and having the fish come under the boat we stopped and got the kites out. They were biting the kites as fast as we could get them out for 45 minutes straight. Fly lined baits and sinker rigs were also getting consistent bites throughout the stop. Most of the 22 fish in that stop were 150 to 190, but we also landed 6 cows by the time it was all over. The last fish of the day was an absolute giant, well over 300 pounds and after swimming to the boat just out of gaff range, it broke off do to a tackle failure. If you are going to come out and try and land one of these "super cows", you need to have the right gear. You don't bring a BB gun to hunt a lion, so make sure you have gold reels, 100 pound backed with spectra and a 250 pound leader with an 8/0 or 9/0 eagle claw circle hook. Tomorrow will be our last day down with the big fish, so wish us luck.
