The Chico Area Flyfishers announced their annual awards at their recent banquet: Press Powell Memorial Award- Tim Fox; Chico Fly Fishing Hall of Fame- Pat Sleeper; Sabertooth Award- Terry Mich; Golden Zipper Award- Scott Hood.

Club members Pat and Don Sleeper recently returned from a flyfishing excursion to Belize, spending 7 days aboard a mother ship that towed four fishing prams. The couple were joined by local anglers Larry Willis, Eldon Hinkle, Frank Jackson, and Fish First manager Mac Noble.

Fishing was tough by the local standards, but pretty spectacular nonetheless. The primary targets were bonefish, tarpon, snook, and permit, and several tarpon were hooked, but not landed. Willis was fortunate to land five bonefish in a single day. Both Pat Sleeper and Mac Noble achieved what is considered fly fishing's "Holy Grail", by landing a permit on flyfishing gear. Noble in fact landed three of the elusive species.
