Puerto Morelos Fishing Report

2-17-2011
Larry Edwards

The fishing reports for Puerto Morelos are always fun to read and always provide a mixed-bag variety of interesting Caribbean critters and overall, it continues to be one of our "hot spots" that always seems to produce something for the day's efforts. This past week is no different. While a few less days were fished this past week when compared to the week before, the results were still good and reflected 15 yellowfin tuna, 2 king mackerel, 7 Atlantic barracuda, 2 wahoo, 7 Spanish mackerel, 28 bonito, 4 blue runners, 12 snapper, 2 soapfish, 11 triggerfsih, 10 grouper and 7 miscellaneous.

PM Climate: Partly cloudy days with good periods of intermittent sunshine and temps that ranged from 62 nights to a pleasant 84 degrees for the daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Excellent clarity with an average 78 degree temperature, almost no swell and light tropical surface winds of 5-10 knots.

Best Lure/Bait: The un-rigged ballyhoo was the better of the baits this past week and produced most of the fish for the anglers.

Bait Supply: Plentiful is the right word. This particular area seems to never have a bait problem with a seemingly unending supply of ballyhoo available.
