Puerto Morelos Fishing Report

2-10-2011
Larry Edwards

Another fun-filled, action-packed week of fishing from the Marina El Cid Sportfishing Fleet at Puerto Morelos, that produced an eleven fish variety for the anglers. The overall catches consisted of 5 yellowfin tuna, 4 dorado, 12 king mackerel, 21 Atlantic barracuda, 19 bonito, 16 grouper, 31 triggerfish, 2 amberjack, 26 snappers, 4 Sierras and 5 soapfish. Puerto Morelos continues to be one of our favorite family fishing areas that produces a mix of fish that keeps the interest up for every strike.

PM Climate: Mostly cloudy during the early week and then a few P.M. showers moved into the area as the week progressed. Temps ranged from 59 nights to 82 daytime highs and remained shirt-sleeve weather.

Sea Conditions: Water temps held at 79-80 throughout the week and the waters are bristol and very clear. Mostly light and variable tropical surface breezes but not enough to create any wind chop.

Best Bait/Lure: Continues to be the favored ballyhoo baits, both skirt-rigged and un-rigged and trolled at different depths, depending on the fish being chased.

Bait Supply: Remains excellent and plentiful for fresh ballyhoo baits.
